People of Gaza

The vast majority of people in Gaza are Sunni Muslims, making up over 99% of the population. Islam plays a central role in daily life, culture, and governance, particularly since Hamas, an Islamist organization, has controlled Gaza since 2007.

There is a very small Christian minority, primarily Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic, but their numbers have significantly declined over the years due to emigration, economic hardship, and regional instability. Estimates suggest there are fewer than 1,000 Christians remaining in Gaza.

There are no significant Jewish, Druze, or other religious communities in Gaza today.
