Do Not Repay Evil with Evil
Scripture Reference: Romans 12:17-21
“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord. On the contrary: ‘If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.’ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Opening Prayer
Heavenly Father, we gather here today seeking your wisdom and guidance. Your Word teaches us to live in love and grace, even when we face challenges and wrongdoing. Open our hearts to receive your message of peace and forgiveness. Help us to live as Christ taught us, reflecting your light in a world that often feels shadowed by darkness. Amen.
Introduction
Have you ever been wronged? It’s a question that doesn’t require much thought because all of us, at some point, have been hurt, betrayed, or mistreated. Our first instinct might be to fight fire with fire, to give as good as we got. But as followers of Christ, we are called to a higher standard. We are called not to repay evil with evil but to overcome evil with good.
