Better Angels

Better Angels

The term "better angels" refers to the idea of our higher, more virtuous instincts and moral compass that guide us toward kindness, empathy, and understanding. It originates from a quote by Abraham Lincoln in his first inaugural address, where he urged people to appeal to their better angels rather than resort to conflict or division. Essentially, it suggests that despite our flaws and conflicts, we have the capacity for goodness and can choose to act in ways that promote harmony and cooperation. It’s often invoked in discussions about unity, reconciliation, and the pursuit of a more just society.
