We do not know as much as we pretend to know.

Religion, at its best, is a human attempt to face mystery without collapsing into despair. It is a language of symbols, rituals, stories, and practices built around what cannot be fully grasped. But too often, people mistake their fragment for the whole, their glimpse for the final map. No amount of meditation, study, doctrine, vision, or altered consciousness gives anyone total possession of truth. We live at the edges of the unknowable. We infer, we imagine, we translate, we project. That is our condition. The trouble begins when interpretation hardens into arrogance, and arrogance recruits violence. The world has suffered enough from people announcing their partial view as absolute law. A wiser religion would begin with humility: we do not see the whole, and therefore must judge our beliefs by their fruit. If a faith makes us kinder, truer, less cruel, less proud, more capable of love and justice, it may be worth keeping. If it breeds domination, hatred, or war, it has confused power for God. Experimental religion is the name for a more honest path: practice without pretending to final certainty, reverence without empire, wonder without tyranny.
