Why all Americans needs to vote

It is a Constitutional right for all American citizens 18 years or older to vote in national and local elections. Yet, too many people take that right for granted. In the 2012 presidential election, only 57.5% of eligible voters cast ballots. That means that only about 1/3 of eligible voters made their voices heard. There are a number of reasons why it is important for all Americans to vote. First and foremost, voting is our civic duty. It is one way we can all have a say in how our government is run. Additionally, voting is a way to hold our elected officials accountable. If we don’t like the way they are representing us, we can vote them out of office. Finally, voting is a way to ensure that our voices are heard. The government is supposed to represent us, the people. By voting, we are telling our representatives what issues are important to us. So, the next time there is an election, don’t take the right to vote for granted. Get out and cast your ballot!
