The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and local law enforcement agencies are actively investigating these incidents. Despite extensive efforts, authorities have not identified the operators or determined the drones' origins. White House national security communications adviser John Kirby noted that many reported sightings might be lawful manned aircraft, stating, "Upon review of available imagery, it appears many of the reports of sightings are actually manned aircraft that are being operated lawfully."
The situation has raised concerns among residents and officials. State Senator Jon Bramnick has called for a limited state of emergency to ban all drones until the sightings are explained. Governor Phil Murphy has requested additional federal resources to address the issue, emphasizing the need for a coordinated response.
While some speculate that foreign adversaries or private companies might be responsible, there is currently no evidence to support these theories. The Pentagon has denied claims linking the drones to foreign entities, and investigations continue to determine their purpose and origin.
Authorities urge the public to report any drone sightings to assist in the ongoing investigation. The FBI has set up a tip line and is collaborating with federal, state, and local partners to monitor and investigate the drone activity.
