There are abortions in the Bible

There are a total of six abortions mentioned in the Bible. Two of these are committed by King Herod in response to prophecies about his own death. The first is when he orders the execution of all male infants in Bethlehem in an attempt to kill the baby Jesus. The second is when he orders the execution of his own wife, Mariamne, after she becomes pregnant with his child. The other four abortions are mentioned in the Book of Judges. The first is when the Bible says that the Israelites "sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire." The second is when a woman named Jephthah kills her own daughter after making a vow to God that if he wins a battle, she will be sacrificed as a burnt offering. The third is when the Israelites capture the town of Ai and slaughter all of its inhabitants, including "every living thing that breathed." The fourth is when the Israelites capture the city of Jericho and destroy all of its inhabitants, including "every living thing that breathed." While it is morally reprehensible, abortion was not considered to be an inherently sinful act in the Old Testament. It was only considered to be sinful if it was done for the wrong reasons (i.e. to sacrifice a child to a pagan god, to avoid paying a bride price, etc.) or if it resulted in the death of the unborn child.
