The importance of S.T.E.M.

 Education

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, or S.T.E.M. education, is critical to the future of our nation. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2020 there will be 1.4 million jobs in science and engineering that will go unfilled due to a lack of qualified candidates. That’s 1.4 million jobs that our economy will not be able to fill.

Part of the reason for this is that students are not getting the S.T.E.M. education they need to be qualified for these jobs. According to a study by the National Science Foundation, in 2015, only 26 percent of high school seniors were proficient in mathematics and interested in a career in mathematics. That’s a problem, because careers in mathematics and science are among the highest-paying jobs in our economy.

S.T.E.M. education is not just important for those students who want to go into a career in mathematics or science. All students need a strong S.T.E.M. education in order to be successful in the 21st century economy. In a world where technology is constantly changing, those students who have a strong S.T.E.M. education will be able to keep up with the latest trends and changes. They will also be more likely to find high-paying jobs in the future.

So what can we do to improve S.T.E.M. education in our country? We need to make sure that our schools are properly funded so that our teachers can get the training they need to teach S.T.E.M. classes. We also need to make sure that our students have access to high-quality S.T.E.M. education.

The bottom line is that S.T.E.M. education is critical to the future of our nation. We need to make sure that all students have access to a strong S.T.E.M. education, so that they can be successful in the 21st century economy.

Conclusion

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are important fields that students should consider studying. STEM professions are in high demand and offer high wages. In addition, STEM graduates are more likely to be satisfied with their careers.
