Really considering leaving my Apple based work flow behind.

Currently I use an i7 based Mac Mini. It is a great machine. When I purchased it I was able to upgrade the RAM myself. This saved me over 1000 dollars.

Current Apple products do not allow users to upgrade after purchase. Even the 'Pro" products are not upgradeable. This forces you to over for every upgrade. An 8TB SSD is worth $299. Apple marks this up to $2000.

Im strongly considering a Framework laptop (full upgradeable) and and open soure OS. POP OS looks like a good option.

Below is some data of Apple upgrades:

  • 💰
The outrageous prices for Ram and storage turn a great laptop into a heinously overpriced mess, cannibalizing Apple's own product categories.
  • 🤯
Charging $400 to go from 1 to 2 terabytes is outright extortion, according to the speaker.
  • 💸
The cost of upgrading Apple's SSD storage is outrageous compared to other options on the market.
  • 🖥️
The high cost of Apple's storage upgrades is not only ripping off consumers but also damaging their product stack.
  • 💸
Customizing Apple laptops can quickly become outrageously expensive, making it more cost-effective to buy a more expensive base model.
  • 💻
The only options to deal with the issue are to either solder nand chips yourself or use external storage.
  • 💸
Building a 2 TB model for $240 is a much better trade-off than spending thousands to get it from Apple.
  • 💰
Apple's storage pricing may not be defensible, as buying used can save money on costly upgrades.
