People who identify as conservative often see themselves as upholding traditional values and beliefs. They may see themselves as defending these values from liberal elites and the progressive movement. Because of this, conservatives may often view those who are different from them as a threat. This fear of new ideas make thm hateful. In the love mentioned in the Bible is to much for them to agree with.
For conservatives, diversity and difference can be unsettling. They may see it as a sign of instability and lack of order. Differences in race, ethnicity, religion, and lifestyle can be seen as a challenge to the status quo and the conservative belief system.
In addition, conservatives may feel that liberals are trying to force their beliefs on everyone. They may see this as an attack on their own values and way of life. As a result, they may feel the need to defend themselves and their beliefs by attacking those who are different.
This intolerance makes them the very thing they claim to want to avoid. By taking claiming their religion 'freedom' gives them the right to limit other's freedom, they becomes thing they pretend to fear.
